Interim Mission & Pastoral Council
In March of this year, Fr Tony announced the formation of a Working Group to help establish a Mission & Pastoral Council across both parishes. Since its inception, the Working Group has met 5 times, and in the course of these meetings, has considered the material gathered at last year’s Our Parish: Past-Present-Future fora, mass count figures and sacramental statistics, results from the Parish Renewal Program, as well as various models and processes which might be useful. The Working Group has also considered information from the Archdiocese on the Take the Way of the Gospel process.
At its September meeting, the Working Group resolved to move forward with establishing an Interim Mission & Pastoral Council (IMPC). This council will be interim because its final form may be different to what we start out with as the work of the Council grows and develops. The Working Group also approved statutes to guide the work of the IMPC. The IMPC seeks to follow the model of synodality which Pope Francis has called the Church to embrace.
Synodality is the term used to describe the process of fraternal collaboration and discernment that we are trying to embrace more fully. It is a model that includes listening to a broad range of people and then discussing the issues together with the goal of hearing where the Holy Spirit is calling the church. Synodality is an attitude and an approach of moving forward in a co-responsible way that is open to welcoming God’s fruits together over time.
We are now seeking Expressions of Interest for membership of the Interim Mission & Pastoral Council.
